Indigo Children, a term from the 1970s, are believed to possess unique spiritual abilities and intuition. Often considered “old souls,” they demonstrate wisdom and maturity that seem beyond their years.

Yesterday, I chatted with a 9-year-old boy about the importance of recycling to protect the environment. After showing him photographs of animals harmed by ocean pollution, including a turtle deformed by a plastic band, it stirred something in him. The following day, he called to share his thoughts on life. His insights left me amazed.
Boy said, “I want to be a vegetarian. I wouldn’t like seeing animals killed for food. You can get protein from plants, which also make you healthy. You’re a vegetarian, and you’re strong!
“It’s horrible for humans to hurt animals. Hunters kill rhinos just for their horns! Because of climate change, all animals, like the dinosaurs, might eventually become extinct. If the world keeps changing, smart animals—like apes—might take over the planet instead. [He probably got this idea from watching *The Planet of the Apes*].
“Humans are causing climate change and all these bad things. Do you know the average temperature on Venus? It’s 867 degrees Fahrenheit! Earth’s temperature will keep rising, and we’ll all be cooked soon. Why can’t people just let everything be and enjoy life?”
Jaw-dropping comments. I was in awe.
This boy’s upbringing is crucial to his awareness. His mom encourages him to read at the library, participate in coastal cleanups, and volunteer with seniors. Such early exposure to community service nurtures his self-awareness. He has a sound mind, plenty of common sense, and incredible observational skills. It’s as if he picks up information from the ether, echoing our consciousness.
My 15-minute conversation with this old soul gave me hope. It reassured me that caring individuals will always be here to protect our environment.
So, friends, never underestimate your child. They observe quietly and understand more than we often realize. Our actions inspire their growth. Put them in a loving, spiritual environment and let them grow as they should—not as we want them to. Guide them, introduce them to social ethics and survival skills, assist when needed, but most importantly, let them be.
In three words, I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on. ~ Robert Frost
